Japan IT Services Morning Brief (2026/11/03)

Covers Tokyo session Mon Nov 2, 2026 (Tue Nov 3 is Culture Day — TSE closed). US and India sessions are also Nov 2. All times JST.

Quick take: A soft, risk-off Monday. The Nikkei slipped 0.33% and TOPIX lost 0.88% as last Friday’s US chip rout (Intel down ~30%) and Kioxia’s post-earnings plunge spooked the tape. IT services mostly drifted lower in sympathy. DTS was the only name in our group to drop more than 3%, and Fujitsu kept bleeding after last Friday’s limit-down. After the close, NSSOL nudged up its guidance and its dividend. DTS cut its sales forecast but kept its profit guide.

2. What drove the moves

The macro backdrop. It was a risk-off start to the week. Wall Street sold off last Friday (Dow −572) on worries about whether AI spending will pay off, and Intel crashed about 30%. In Tokyo, Kioxia tanked after its results. Tokyo Electron and Advantest helped cushion the index, but over 1,000 Prime stocks still finished in the red, and volume was light ahead of the US midterms and Tuesday’s holiday. Kabutan’s close report named Hitachi and Fujitsu among the large-cap laggards. “Services” was among the worst-performing sectors. (Kabutan close report, Nikkei)

  • DTS (−4.14%, ¥1,134). DTS was the biggest loser in the group, but the drop happened before its results, which came out at 15:30. No specific reason for the intraday selling was reported. After the close, DTS cut its FY3/27 sales forecast by 4.2% to ¥136.0bn (from ¥142.0bn) because several large product deals were lost or disappeared. It kept its OP (¥17.0bn), recurring profit (¥17.35bn) and net profit (¥11.7bn) forecasts, saying those deals carried little profit and that SI productivity is improving. H1 recurring profit came in at ¥8.17bn (−0.8% YoY). Q2 (Jul–Sep) recurring profit rose 9.6% to ¥4.69bn, and the Q2 OP margin was 13.9%. The dividend plan (¥38) is unchanged. PTS was basically flat (+0.18%). (JPX filing, Kabutan)
  • Fujitsu (−2.98%, ¥3,514). Fujitsu extended its post-earnings slide. On Fri Oct 30 it hit limit-down (−¥700, −16.20%): Q2 adjusted OP of ¥59.0bn (−31.6% YoY) came in well short of the roughly ¥77bn consensus, as losses on unprofitable projects meant IT services gross margins didn’t improve as much as the market hoped. It kept its ¥425bn full-year guide, but the market now sees that target as a stretch. No fresh company news on Nov 2. It simply got dragged lower with the broader selloff. (Kabutan/Fisco Oct 30, Kabutan close report)
  • Hitachi (−2.43%, ¥4,970). Hitachi gave back last Friday’s small bounce (+0.45%). No company-specific trigger was reported. It was flagged as one of the big-cap decliners in a risk-off tape. Brokers are still constructive after results: Iwai Cosmo raised its target to ¥6,600 from ¥6,200 (Oct 30), and UBS raised its target to ¥7,800 from ¥7,100 (Oct 29), both with buy-equivalent ratings. After the close, Hitachi posted its Hitachi Energy Investor Day materials. PTS was +0.40%. (Kabutan ratings Oct 30, Kabutan ratings Oct 29, Hitachi news list)
  • NSSOL (−0.94%; results after the close). H1 net profit rose 23.7% to ¥14.86bn, and H1 OP of ¥23.2bn beat its own plan by 7.9%. In Q2 (Jul–Sep), net profit jumped 39.9% and the OP margin widened to 13.3% from 10.2%. It lifted FY3/27 guidance only slightly: OP to ¥49.0bn (from ¥48.5bn) and net profit to ¥32.4bn (from ¥32.3bn, +0.3%), extending its record-profit streak. It also raised the dividend to ¥89 (from ¥87). The guidance bump is tiny compared with the H1 beat, and PTS dipped about 1.2% (¥4,050). (Kabutan)
  • Dentsu Soken (+0.14%, ¥2,873). The VIC (ITOCHU group) tender offer at ¥2,880 kicked off on Nov 2 and runs to Dec 2 (21 business days), after all antitrust clearances (Japan, China, EU) came through. The minimum tender threshold is 9,340,400 shares, there is no cap, and a squeeze-out will follow. The stock is pinned ¥7 below the offer, a spread of about 0.24%. (ITOCHU notice (EN), Kabutan)
  • NEC (+0.04%, ¥4,852). NEC was basically flat, a breather after two straight down days (−6.39% on Oct 29, −2.10% on Oct 30). No new news. Iwai Cosmo raised its target to ¥6,300 from ¥6,000 on Oct 30. (Kabutan ratings Oct 30)
  • BayCurrent (−1.65%). No news on the day. It eased back after hitting a record high of ¥12,205 on Oct 30, the same day Tokai Tokyo raised its target to ¥13,300 from ¥10,100 (Outperform). (Kabutan ratings Oct 30)
  • Others (NRI, TIS, Canon MJ, BIPROGY, NSD). These names drifted 0.5–1.7% lower with the market. No price-relevant company news was reported on Nov 2. NRI gave back a little of its +4.01% pop on Oct 30. TIS (Nov 4) and BIPROGY (Nov 5) report later this week.

Earnings calendar. Already out: Hitachi, NEC (Oct 28); Fujitsu, NRI, NSD (Oct 29); Dentsu Soken (Oct 30); NSSOL, DTS (Nov 2). Up next: TIS on Wed Nov 4 (15:30 scheduled), then BIPROGY on Thu Nov 5. (TIS IR, BIPROGY IR calendar)

3. Company news & industry

  • NTT DATA confirms data leak at its digital-securities platform. In its second notice, NTT DATA said a SaaS run by contractor Securitize Japan suffered unauthorized access on Oct 29. Data on 2,789 bond buyers leaked: 2,678 buyers of Kintetsu GHD bonds (kana name, quantity, email) and 111 buyers of JR West and Kagome bonds (full personal details). The “STdirectServices” platform remains suspended. (NTT DATA release, Nikkei)
  • NTT DATA × Fortience launch an AI-era legacy modernization service. A planning service for modernizing legacy systems with AI in mind, available from Nov 2. Separately, the NTT group launched a “Security Trust Forum”, with its first meeting on Nov 27. (NTT DATA – modernization, NTT DATA – STF)
  • Fujitsu and NEC CFOs still see solid IT demand. In ITmedia’s write-up, Fujitsu’s domestic services orders were up 9% YoY in H1, with mission-critical/national security orders up 43% and finance down 5%. NEC’s underlying domestic IT orders rose 4% in Q2 (Enterprise +10%, ABeam +15%). Both CFOs expect DX demand to stay strong despite cyber, AI and component costs (some server prices have doubled). The writer warns, though, that cyber spending at smaller firms could crowd out other IT investment. (ITmedia)
  • Hitachi to launch “Hitachi Digital”. Announced Oct 28: GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services will combine into a roughly 35,000-person global digital services company on Apr 1, 2027, based in Santa Clara. (Hitachi press release)
  • Dentsu Soken Q3. Jan–Sep recurring profit rose 10% YoY. The results were released alongside the TOB launch notice on Oct 30. (Kabutan)
  • Theme watch: IT consulting. A Kabutan feature (Oct 31) argues that money is rotating into high-growth IT consulting names while AI-related stocks wobble. BayCurrent is among the names it covers. (Kabutan feature)

4. Overseas peers (Nov 2 session)

Accenture (ACN) $260.94 +1.05% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance
IBM (IBM) $252.51 −2.06% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance
Cognizant (CTSH) $65.09 −0.03% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance
EPAM (EPAM) $143.80 +2.34% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance

Wipro (NSE) ₹196.40 −0.96% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance
HCLTech (NSE) ₹1,434.00 +0.41% Yahoo Finance / Google Finance

US. It was a split tape. The Dow rose 0.41% because oil fell sharply on hopes of US–Iran diplomacy. The Nasdaq, however, dropped 1.07% and the SOX sank 3.5%: Anthropic disclosed huge multi-year spending plans, and Oracle and Meta lined up big fund-raises, which revived worries about AI capex. (Kabutan/Fisco US wrap, Kabutan US overview)
– IBM (−2.06%) slipped with the tech selloff. No IBM-specific news was found.
– Accenture (+1.05%) and EPAM (+2.34%) ticked higher. No specific catalyst was reported for Nov 2.
– Cognizant (flat) set up a 25,000-strong “OpenAI Frontier Capability Group” to deploy OpenAI tools for clients. Separately, Mizuho raised its target to $69 from $64 (Neutral), citing profitability. (Verdict, Investing.com)

India. The Nifty jumped 1.68% to 23,441 on lower oil and strong results, led by Reliance (+12%). IT went the other way, though: the Nifty IT index slipped about 0.5%. Infosys slid about 2% even though it announced an expansion of its Hyderabad (Pocharam) campus, and no clear trigger was reported. TCS was flat, Wipro eased, and HCLTech inched up. (Economic Times, Business Standard, BusinessLine)

Interpretation (my read, not reported fact): Overseas there was no new negative for IT services. The pressure was mostly about AI capex and semis, and the services names themselves (ACN, EPAM) held up fine. The bigger signal is Cognizant’s OpenAI group and the “AI-assisted delivery cannibalizes renewals” debate, which echoes the margin and pricing questions now hanging over Fujitsu. With CME Nikkei futures at 62,935, about 147 points below Monday’s cash close, Wednesday could open a touch soft. If so, results-driven names (TIS on Nov 4) may matter more than macro for the group.
